Description |
Projecting rounded beard in 3 rows of stylized corkscrew curls; forehead crowned with three rows of same, the hair on top of the head in shallow parallels waves, terminating at the ears to form loose wavy long shoulder-shanks. The stylization of the ear might be confused with rams' horns, suggesting Ammon. Rounded forehead, eyebrows inset, deep almond shaped eyes with full lower lids, full cheeks, rather long thin nose, smiling mouth; upper lip and mustache separated from lower lip and beard by groove which delineates slightly open mouth. Some use of drill; surface work not sharp and crisp. Root marks visible on the back which is smooth and flat, to which another herm had been attached. |
